Person
of the Month Overview
I've
always wanted to have a forum where I could express my gratitude
to special people in my life. Often, life is full of criticism
and assumptions that the person or people know how you feel
about them. Every day we pass up opportunities to tell someone
that they made your day. How often do you say to yourself: "That
was nice of him/her" or "Oh my gosh! They put their plate in
the sink". Sure, you might say a polite thank-you, but do they
truly understand that you appreciate what they have done.
Whatever it may be, we
all need to take a moment to acknowledge the extra efforts
that are made for us. We've all heard about the idea of doing
Random Acts of Kindness. Just doing something nice for someone
else is like opening the curtains on a bright sunny morning.
You just feel good! Even if the act feels insignificant or "it was no big deal",
it makes you feel good that you took an extra moment of your
time to make someone else's life a little easier - even if
it was just holding door open. Karma has an odd way of working
out and it'll come back to you eventually. Next time someone
holds the door open for you, take notice. Acknowledge the act
and pass it on.
I received an email a while ago from a friend
who was passing on this interesting little story. I kept it,
because it is sort of a life motto that I like to draw from.

Schultz's Philosophy |
You don't actually
have to take the quiz. Just read it through, and you'll
get the point that he is trying to make!
1. Name the five wealthiest people in
the world.
2. Name the last five Heisemann trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer
prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for
best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do? The point is, none of
us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no
second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields.
But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are
forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with
their owners. Here's another quiz. See how you do on
this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your
journey through life.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
6. Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you.
This section is much easier, isn't it?
The lesson: The people who make a difference in your
life are not the ones with the most credentials, the
most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that
care. |
Now, let's get down to
the nitty-gritty. I want to showcase a person who deserves
some credit. Do you know someone who is constantly putting
everyone else's needs in front of their own?
Do you have a friend who would do anything
for you? Who is right beside you every time you need him/her?
A grandmother who attends every piano recital of her grandchildren
- even when she doesn't really like the music? A person who volunteers
many hours a week to a certain cause when they could really
use the extra money from a job? This is a dedication to those
who are often overlooked or who just deserve an extra THANK-YOU
from the bottom of our hearts!
Do you know someone
who deserves a thank-you and little extra credit
for all the "extras" that they do?
Send
me an email
describing why they should be featured on the next
Person of the Month. Include a mailing address or
email address because if they are selected, I will
send them a personal astrology chart of their choice
as a "thank-you" for helping make the world a better
place! Don't forget to attach a photo along with
the email so everyone can see who they are!!
"Too
often we underestimate the power of touch, a
smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest
compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all
of which have the potential to turn a life around."
~ Leo Buscaglia
